As I have mentioned several times, New Zealand is on my bucket list. Apparently I am not alone – over the last few years it has become an enormously popular destination. Cruises are especially popular. The country is wild yet there is also diversity with yacht-filled harbors, geothermal activity and Maori heritage. Let’s take a brief look:
North Island – Cinematic landscape and Maori traditions abound! Taking a trip to glowworm lit caves is a great experience I am told. Other activities you may be interested in include a tour through New Zealand’s national museum and visits to estates for private wine tastings. Make sure you explore the hot springs and geysers – in fact explore everything you can! In Rotorua indulge yourself in treatments inspired by the waters. Looking for fantastic food? Visit Wharekauhau Country Estate for a farm-to-table feast featuring seasonal produce.
South Island – A bit wilder than North Island and you will enjoy seeing the difference! This is where you will observe fjords and alpine lakes. If the weather permits, take a look at Milford Sound. The terrain on this island is rugged but you can trek any direction you like. Take a detour to the coast for an opportunity to see dolphins, penguins and other wildlife! Go to Queenstown and ride the sky gondola. Do you want to try bungee jumping? This is the place to give it a try – in fact the first bungee bridge ever made is located here. There are also ziplines that will take you up and over the canopy.
If you enjoy cruises, sail away! You’ll have the opportunity to weave through fjords as well as enjoy the cities. While it is possible to purchase a cruise going only to New Zealand, most sailings include Australia and why not? It is a long way to this part of the world so take advantage and see both countries! Celebrity and Azamara have New Zealand itineraries to check. If you are looking for an ultra-luxury cruise check Scenic Luxury Cruises.
Have you traveled to New Zealand? If so , I would love to hear from you. Those of us who have not yet had the pleasure would love a first-hand experience!
Constant stress is the norm. Here’s your answer.
We’ve never been there or to Australia either. We will be looking into a cruise probably. The flight there sure is a long one!
I too dreamed of travel to New Zealand. I worked with some Kiwis and they were friendly folk.Perhaps someday I will have fewer obligations and I will make to more lands down under.
