My travel writing is generally aimed at adults. I do make an occasional detour and spotlight family vacations though. While the focus on this trip remains on adults, it works for older children-teenagers specifically. It is not recommended for young kids. This is not a vacation for those looking only for relaxation ( although some can be added). I have written about Switzerland before but in much more general terms. I have also posted on Swiss rail travel and the Alps. Today I will be much more specific.
Interlaken is a small resort town located in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps. It is located between two lakes and serves as the primary gateway to explore nearby villages and parks. There are direct trains from Bern, Zurich and Lucerne – this country has the best public transportation in Europe!
What can you do in and around Interlaken?
–Take a hike to the top of Harder Kulm. Located just on the other side of the train station, it provides a 4388 foot view of the town itself and the mountains. Another hike you may enjoy is the Via Alpina whose multiple trails cover the entire width of Switzerland. No need to hike the entire length-just pick out one!
Take a train ride– the most famous is the Cogwheel Train, the most popular train in Interlaken, with its incredibly steep vertical ride up to the Schryige Plate Panorama. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by its stunning views! There are a number of trails–pick one!
Go paragliding and view the town from above!
Cuisine – Don’t forget to sample the food -swiss chocolate of course but so much more! Arrange a food tour for a thorough look. The local beer is rumored to be quite good!
Research Interlaken as there is much more that will catch your interest!
