When you are planning an international trip, what do you look at first? Airfare? hotel/lodging? Site-seeing plans? When my husband and I failed to take a good look beforehand, public transportation provided a great service!. Public transportation can and often does make a huge difference. Many folks opt for a car rental-after all a car is available when the spirit moves.. Yet car rental comes with its own set of problems that go beyond the rental fee. Many hotels do not have vehicle parking onsite and even if they do there is usually a fee attached. This lack of parking spaces extends beyond the hotel. The destinations you plan on visiting may have a noticeable lack of parking. This is frequently the case with restaurants as well. Driving can be distinctively unpleasant in some countries also. Let’s take a look at two European locations where public transportation renders car rental unnecessary.
London has an extensive public transportation system. The tube is the most well-known example. It reaches most neighborhoods and makes travel accessible and inexpensive for tourists. Buses are also available and they have a flat rate. The DLR is available and serves areas in East and Southwest London. We found this transportation quite helpful.
Switzerland has what is arguably the most efficient and interconnected public transportation in the world. The Swiss Federal Railway connects nearly every town in the country–and it is punctual! Looking to design a multi-city Swiss itinerary? You should look into the Swiss Travel Pass which is usually less expensive than purchasing individual tickets. In addition to the federal train system there are over 70 railway companies that compete for the business. Take a look at the Glacier Express or Bernina Express – these trains are actually destinations in themselves!
There are other destinations that also provide excellent service. If you are planning a trip make sure you do your research!
Switzerland trains sound great.
Thank you very much!
