As the birthplace of modern LGBTQ+ rights and home of the Stonewall riots, it’s no surprise that NYC is one of the gayest and most gay-friendy destinations in the world. From Brooklyn and Queens to Hell’s Kitchen and Greenwich Village, there are numerous “gaybourhoods” to explore.
The Stonewall Riots were a series of riots and demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn. It is often considered the defining moment of gay rights in the US. Be sure to see Stonewall National Monument, the first U.S. National Park unit dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights and is located in Greenwich Village, NYC.
NYC is full of great nightlife and restaurants. Try the high-energy Hells’ Kitchen. The dining scene is also fantastic! Sumtum Der, a Michelin starred Thai restaurant is a must see (and taste!) The city is full of other gay chefs and restaurants you will love!
The Leslie Lohman Museum is a huge space with over 30,000 exhibits and items with changing exhibits and public programs in addition to its permanent collection. It is located on Wooster St and open Wednesday – Sunday from 12 -6.
