The Cayman Islands consist of three individual islands. The most populous and well known is Grand Cayman. Often known for private bank accounts (shady and otherwise!) as well as beautiful beaches, it was the site of our last shore excursion. We took the tender from the ship to George Town for a bit of exploration.
The Cayman Islands are a self-governing part of the UK. Unsurprisingly, the official language is English. 150 miles south of Cuba,it is a great place to spend an afternoon. George Town, located on Grand Cayman and the capital of the country, is small, modern and eminently walkable. Leaving the city limits we took a stroll, looking around and appreciating the warm weather. We enjoyed the beaches, local parks, and savored the lush green look of the Caribbean. We saw surfers as well as swimmers, and although we did not see divers, the island is said to be a diving paradise.
Grand Cayman is known for its cuisine and restaurants. While we did not visit any of the upscale restaurants, we did enjoy a local one located right on the beach. The food was good and the staff friendly. After lunch we headed back to the ship. Another visit to the island is needed for further exploration.
If you get a chance, take a visit! You’ll enjoy it!
We’ve enjoyed reading about your trip. We have been to the Cayman Islands and thought they were lovely but on the expensive side. We’re glad you had a good time!
