Peru is a beautiful, historical country and is enormously diverse. As I have mentioned before, Peru is more than Machu Picchu! Parts of the Amazon Rain Forest are located here as well. Next trip, perhaps! After leaving the Paracas National Reserve (see last post) we left General San Martin and sailed towards Lima.
As well as being the capital,Lima is the largest city in Peru. We spent four days there visiting several unique locations. Lima is also considered the gastronomic capital of South America. With its fusion of Spanish, African and Asian traditions, it is often considered in a class by itself. It’s best known dish is ceviche, which consists of raw fish, lime, cilantro and raw onions. While the dish is served throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, it reaches its pinnacle here. We had a fantastic dinner in a restaurant in the historic center of Lima.
We also had a tour in the Historic Center (usually referred to as “Old Lima”) So many lovely buildings representing various European styles. It was a wonderful introduction to the city that we hope to visit again in the future. Overall we loved the city and hope to return in the future.
Tomorrow we land in Ecuador!
