Do you like cold weather vacations?  How about otherworldly quiet, adventure, and extraordinary wildlife all wrapped in a pristine environment?  If this sounds like you, I may have the vacation you have been looking for!

Nunavut, Canada, the country’s northernmost territory, is a gigantic winter wonderland..  This arctic region actually covers a fifth of the entire country.  It is so remote there are no highways or major roads.  To get there you will have to use alternate transportation – air travel or arrive by sea.

This is the place for those who love wildlife.  You can find muskox, caribou, beluga and walrus.  In addition, make sure to see the two stars of this frigid land: polar bears and narwhals.  Polar bears are the largest land carnivores on earth and deserve a healthy respect. They are found in several areas of the region.  To safely view them, join a tour led by an experienced guide.  This will provide safety and allow an enjoyable observation of these gigantic animals.

Narwhals are often called the unicorns of the sea and for good reason.  These whales have tusks up to 10 feet long that grow from one of their two teeth. Although you can view them any time of the year they are especially prevalent in May and June.  Arctic Bay, Pond Inlet, and Naujaat are three of their habitats.  Although occasionally  seen in groups of more than 100, it is more typical to see a pod of 15 -20.

In addition to the wonderful wildlife, keep in mind that both the Northern Lights (during winter) and the Midnight Sun (in warmer months) are part of the attraction in this frosty land!
