Wave Season is the travel industry’s name for the first three months of the year. This is the time that cruise companies reduce prices to encourage bookings. This is the absolute best time to purchase a cruise at a good price. If you watch cruise advertisements, you will notice these sales are similar to Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. The intent is more far-reaching however. Wave Season exists to sell as many cruises as possible over the next 2 year period – not just last minute sailings. Purchasing a cruise in advance is a great deal – and the best deals are available January through March.
Wave Season sales are different from ordinary sales. Yes, they offer discounts on cruise fares but you will often see other price reductions such as reduced deposits, two-for-one fares, and onboard credit. Sometimes they will offer upgrades on cabins, discounts on spa services or free meals at their specialty restaurants.
Know what you want – or at least have a good idea. Decide how much you want to spend and be realistic about costs. A cruise is always more than the upfront price. Unless you are on an all-inclusive cruise, you will pay for shore excursions and specialty restaurants. Don’t forget the cost of airfare and any needed hotel rooms.
Decide the type of cruise you are interested in – ocean, river or expedition. There are sales on all three types. Decide how long you want your cruise to be. Understand the differences between room types. Remember that the price offered on the ad is generally for an inside room-which is the least expensive. Compare different cruise lines – prices, amenities, and ambience differ quite a bit.
Happy Cruising!
Good information; keep up the good work.
