Washington DC

It has been a few months since my last visit to Washington. My husband and I took the trip specifically to see the city with each other.  We had been there several times when our kids were small to show them the city. It was always in the summer, hot, sweaty and crowded.  I had been there numerous times for business but those trips left little time to do anything else.  Our trip was in February and while it was cool, light jackets were all that was needed.  We walked all around DC and re-visited all the sites we had taken the kids to years ago.  We ended up visiting the Holocaust Museum, Vietnam Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the Smithsonian  and others.  We visited shops and restaurants, and enjoyed just walking around in the sun. 

I think there are great reasons to visit DC.  I love walkable cities and DC is certainly that.  I also appreciate knowing and seeing part of our nation’s history.  They have great restaurants as well.  I felt safe walking through our capitol because I know that though  some years back it could be a dangerous place…. it no longer is!  Reports saying otherwise are simply not true.  Use the same amount of caution you would use in any city and you will be fine.   If you have not been there for awhile, maybe it is time for a re-do.  It’s an awesome place to see our collective past and remember we are still one country despite our current problems.  Personally, I think that is an important thing to see and remember.
