Quiet Travel

Beautiful seascape. Composition of nature.

So often when planning a trip, we can fall into the trap of looking for the most exciting, adventurous or energetic.  At times, of course, that is exactly what we want and/or need.  I love Las Vegas, for instance, specifically because it has that energetic, anything goes, aura.  Let’s face it, that is exactly what makes it such a lively destination-the idea that anything could happen!  It is all about promise and opportunity wrapped up in a zesty vibe.  It’s addictive!

Sometimes, however, we may want something less frenzied.  More serenity and less hustle can also be appealing, especially to those of us who are looking to escape our chaotic surroundings, or calm a too-busy mind. This is what quiet travel is all about.  These vacations are all about recharging our batteries and immersing ourselves in new scenery and/or different cultures to calm not just our minds, but our bodies as well.  Decreasing stress is important to our physical being- it lowers our blood pressure, slows down our minds, and often provides better sleep. That is what the Wellness Movement is all about.  There are plenty of Cruise lines who know this and have the spas to prove it.

Everyone, of course, has their own definition of what constitutes a calming vacation.  Sometimes one of the best things one can do is to disengage from the online universe.  No email, text messages or social media.  I will be the first one to admit that I would have trouble doing this despite knowing it could have a real advantage.  What you (and I!) can do, however, is to cut it back while vacationing.

What type of environment relaxes  you?  It could be as simple as a well-known place that makes you feel happy and tranquil.  A beach or mountain retreat can work well.  A road trip through the mountains or the Florida Keys could do the trick.  Anyplace that you find magical where you can enjoy the beauty and silence of nature is the right destination!  One suggestion that many enjoy are visits to our National Parks.  Some that are enjoyed are Redwood National and State Park, and North Cascades National Park.  If you want to pull out your passport consider Costa Rica  or take a trek through Ecuador.

Turn down the dial and relax on your next vacation!
