Many people assume that land-based trips are best if you are looking for a more in-depth exploration of a location, and many in cases that is true. There are some exceptions to this, however, as certain locations are much easier and enjoyable if done by cruise. One often offered as an example is the Caribbean, where cruising offers the best opportunity to see numerous locations in one trip. What other countries fit into this category?
Antarctica, with no hotels or restaurants, certainly requires a cruise ship! The Amazon River, with few roads available, is a destination that cries out for cruising. The ship will also provide some comfort and escape from insects! The two destinations that come immediately to my mind, however, are Norway and the Galapagos Islands.
The Galapagos Islands are remote-located over 600 miles from Ecuador’s mainland. See my post for more information on exploring this unique ecosystem. The Norwegian fjords are best explored by cruise for several reasons. First of all, the view is much better via ship. Viewing Geirangerfjord and its Seven Sisters Waterfall is absolutely amazing in a way that cannot be compared to a land view. There are also a number of itineraries available, some leaving from the UK, some from Norway itself, and even some from other Scandinavian countries. You can choose what you most want to see. Secondly, there is a very practical reason to see Norway by ship-it is one of the most expensive countries in the world, especially in regards to restaurants and lodging.
If you are a frequent cruiser, you are already aware of the numerous amenities offered by cruise lines. If you are thinking about your first cruise review this and this. It is a great way to see the world, folks!
