I was never a big fan of camping as a child, although my family did it occasionally. As a young adult, I was always the one voting for the hotel over the tent. I frequently lost that argument and spent my time in a tent dreaming of plush mattresses and room service! At this point in time, I plan to never have another rock pushing into my rib cage. I don’t think I have ever been on a camping trip where something did not go wrong!
Enter Glamping. After reading about it for several years, I think I am ready to give it a try. It is now available in many different places, including many of our National Parks. How could it get any better than spending the day hiking, exploring or going on a waterfall tour and returning to camp for an elevated, sometimes luxurious evening?
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, on the NC and Tenn border has several glamping experiences waiting. One of the premier Glamping Companies, Under Canvas, is reputed to be wonderful. Yep, they do have tents- tents with king size beds, wood burning stoves and bathrooms! No walking down the path to the porta potty at 3am here! They also have a dining hall with a menu of well -prepared food.
Great Glamping is also available at other National Parks, including Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and Acadia. Give it a try and let me know how you enjoyed it!
