I have never been to Eastern Europe – and I plan on changing that! The thing about traveling in this part of Europe is that it is considerably less expensive. This even holds true with Croatia despite its well-deserved popularity. If you are yearning for another trip to Italy, you may enjoy a visit here.
The Dalmatian Coast, featuring Dubrovnik and Split, is by far the most popular stretch of the country. The defining feature of Dubrovnik are the city walls which encircle it. It is a beautiful walk-break it up by veering off to one of the beaches for a swim! Split has a more modern feel but also has wonderful Roman ruins-rumored to be thethe best outside of Italy.
If you want to escape the crowds, consider visiting one of the 8 national parks. Plitvice Lake (pictured) is perhaps the most popular with its numerous lakes and heavily forested hills. Waterfall fans will love it, as will hikers and those looking for a bit of serenity and seclusion.
While the country is wonderful year round, you may want to avoid the crowds in July and August and aim for a visit in either the spring or in autumn. When you return, let me know what you think!
