Bernina Express

My husband and I love train travel and choose it whenever possible.  For the last year or two, we have been obsessing about  finding a journey spectacular, lengthy and European. Everytime we think we have found one, we get distracted by something else and the search starts over!  Recently, while continuing the search for that ever elusive EXACT THING, I stumbled upon some day rides that look quite interesting.  Here is one that looks interesting should you find yourself in Switzerland with a few hours to spare.

Despite its short ( 4 hr) journey, the Bernina Express covers an impressive variety of landscapes.  Beginning in Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland, it traverses the Swiss Engadin Alps, complete with glacier views. Most of the ride is on the Rhaetian RailRoad and passes tunnels, viaducts, bridges before ending in the palm tree laden town of Tirano, Italy.  If you want a seat in one of the panorama cars, you will need to purchase your ticket in advance. Tickets for the standard car can be bought the day of.

Stay tuned for further rail discoveries as we continue our search….;-)
