I love cruises but take them infrequently due to my husband’s more lukewarm response. We do slip them in on an occasional basis between land adventures, however. I love the way most of the logistics are taken care of. The enormous variety available is also a big draw. There are cruises for action-lovers as well as those catered more for relaxation Some provide both. Here is some information to keep in mind when thinking about a cruise:
-Cruises are available year-round.
-Popular cruises are generally booked far before the departure date. Occasionally the cruise lines will discount cruises that have not sold and make a last minute cruise available
-Take your passport. Always. Check to see if you will need a visa (hello Australia). Currently interested in a trip to the UK? You now will need an ETA
-Cruise lengths are variable with many of them lasting 5 -7 days. They are also available anywhere from 2 days to multiple months.
-Transportation – Most cruise lines will arrange air travel for you. This will generally include any needed transfers (ie from airport to dock etc)
-Departure City – Consider arriving in the departure city several days earlier. This will give you an opportunity to do some personal exploration. This is also a great option at the end of the cruise. Although the cruise line will usually book a hotel for you ,you may well find a better deal doing it yourself.
Sounds great, right? In a future post I will examine the different types of cruises available as well as take a look at some of the popular lines.
