ABC ISLANDS

Curacao

The ABC Islands are the three westernmost islands of the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.   They are close and popular with American tourists.  One of their most appreciated qualities is being outside of the hurricane belt.  When the rest of the Caribbean is under hurricane season, these islands are a great detour.  Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao have a shared language (Dutch) and similar ancestry (The Arawak people)  They do, however, differ from each other in some significant ways:

Aruba is perhaps the best known  of the three, with its kitesurfing and diving.  It’s great for those interested in the party scene with plenty of clubs, bars, and casinos.  It also has the best weather.

Bonaire – The most off the beaten-path of the three, it has an Afro-Caribbean heritage and a small town vibe.  Like Aruba, it has fantastic diving and windsurfing.

Curacao  is a blend of Latin American and European culture.  It has the  best beaches (sandy rather than rocky) and is noted for culture with its many art and history museums, galleries and music.  The diving and windsurfing  are also fantastic!

Look to these three for a Caribbean vacation during hurricane season (June through November).  They won’t disappoint!
