River Cruises have become more popular over time for good reasons. The smaller ships have many advantages. Towns are frequently close to rivers (at times the dock is in the town center.) Passengers enjoy being able to immediately start exploring rather than having to take transportation to town.
The smaller size of the ship also provides a more intimate feeling for the passengers. The journey is smoother and calmer without the waves. I often recommend River Cruises for clients who experience sea sickness.
Although some potential clients worry about overall passenger age and worry they will be outnumbered by those older, that is really not the case. Although the demographics do skew slightly older, over time the age average has decreased and will most likely continue to do so. The cruises are designed for intellectually curious people of any age. They are not for those looking for a party cruise.
Generally, river cruises are all-inclusive and therefore look higher in price until you price out what you would pay for the cruise if items were priced separately. My clients enjoy not being “nickel and dimed” and don’t mind paying a bit more for it.
Often identified as a European phenomena, in fact they exist in many locations. Don’t want to leave the US? Try a cruise down the Mississippi River. Traveled to Europe numerous times? The Amazon and Mekong rivers are waiting for your exploration.
Viking and Ama Waterways provide excellent river cruising. If you are interested and want to learn more, contact me and let’s discuss!
