Have you ever looked at a picture marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and wondered what that meant? Over 1,223 places in the world have been chosen by UNESCO due to their cultural and/or natural properties. You know some of them: Yellowstone, Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China, Machu Pichu are all well known. One that I find particularly intriguing is Petra, located in SW Jordan, 50 miles south of the Dead Sea. Mostly deserted today, the city was originally half-built and half carved in rock. Famous for both its architecture and its water system, it is sometimes referred to as “The Rose City” due to the color of its carved rocks. I would love to see it!
There are so many of these special sites and they are located all around the world (yep, in the US as well!). Want to see a site distinguished by its uniqueness? Get up with me and let’s find the one (or ten!) just right for you!
