Get your motor running – there is nothing quite like a road trip!! Travel your way – set your own itinerary and hit the highway! No deadlines, no planes or trains to catch- just you and the open road. These fabulous trips are located all across the country. Do you like old-time music? You may enjoy Virginia’s Crooked Road. Further south enjoy the Florida Keys Scenic Byway. Interested in the western US? Taking a northern Rockies Road Trip may be just what you need. Let’s take a look at a possible itinerary.
One excellent route begins in Glacier National Park and travels south to Sun Valley, Utah. If you have never been to this national park you’ll be astounded by the scenery. Get ready to see glacier-capped ridges, a lake with endless shores and jagged terrain. Begin with Going-to-the-sun Road, definitely the main event! Logan Pass follows the edge of the Continental Divide, climbing to over 6,000 feet.
From Glacier National Park you will continue south through Mission Valley to Flathead Lake. This lake, with its sparkling bright blue water, is the largest freshwater lake in the western US. The Frank Church River of No Return is next. It is one of the biggest wilderness areas in the continental US. From the Salmon River you’ll pass through Stanley, Idaho (population 60!), an excellent location for whitewater rafting. This river is considered one of the most accessible in the western US
Finish your journey in Sun Valley Idaho, one of the first destination ski resorts in the US (and the long time haunt of Ernest Hemingway.) This relaxed, friendly tourist town offers great opportunities for mountain biking. Make sure you go fly fishing in the Big Wood River!
I will be featuring other road trips from time to time! Stay tuned!
Looking forward to exploring here.
