We’ve been to the UK and had a fantastic time. One thing we did not do is to spend much time in the countryside. This is an error that we will correct on our next visit! We loved London– it is a wonderful city and we also enjoyed Bath, Stratford-on-Avon (hello Mr. Shakespeare!) and several other locations. We understand that the countryside, with its cottages, stone villages, and rolling hills, is beautiful and we do not want to miss it again! There is so much history – ancient footpaths and buildings that have been standing since the Norman Conquest. Here are three of the many places that interest us:
The Cotswolds – Villages, cottages,rolling hills, and more. Yes, you get the gorgeous countryside in addition to a more sophisticated experience. There are manicured gardens as well as boutiques and upscale dining. Visit Broadway and experience its rich history as well as cafes and numerous historic buildings.
Bourton on the Water – This is a busy tourist town with the River Windrush running through it. The town is a bit quirky and contains several surprises that I think we would enjoy and suspect you might as well! The Miniature Village and the Dragonfly Maze are enjoyed by both adults and children!
Northern England – This is the home of the Lake District. Located near the Scottish border it is said to be breathtakingly beautiful. The largest national park in the country is here and it draws nature lovers of all sorts. Think about hiking on one of the numerous trails. There are a variety of animal species-remember to be respectful!
There are many other places to be explored in the countryside. Take your time and enjoy!
