While we have been to Peru, our explorations were close to the Pacific Ocean, including Lima.  We had a wonderful time- this is a diverse and beautiful country.  We did not view Cusco and Machu Picchu however–another trip perhaps!  If you are interested in seeing Machu Picchu but hesitating due to the altitude and the difficulty involved in hiking, here is an option you may enjoy

Belmont’s Andean Explorer was the first luxury train in South America.  A trip on this trip is for those looking for an elevated experience-they are quite serious about the luxury!  The train travels between Cusco and Arequipa and you can book either a one or two night trip and start your journey from either city.   The train travels to 14,000 feet, some of the highest tracks between Cusco and Puno. Watch the passing scenery.

There are a number of locations where you can view the spellbinding scenery.  Try the Observation Car with its open deck –  have a drink and enjoy a conversation with your fellow passengers!  If you are feeling especially gregarious visit the bar car with its live music and complimentary cocktails. Enjoy the vista!  Your cabin has top-notch views as well!  Many cabins feature sumptuous suites.  If you want something simpler there are twin rooms and bunk bed rooms available.

As you would expect, the food in the dining room is carefully prepared by chefs and features Peruvian specialties!  The two dining rooms are both lovely and comfortable.  They have great views as well!

If you have any spare time, consider a massage. It helps to alleviate altitude sickness and feels fantastic!   If you are looking for a different treatment, talk to the spa employees.

This marvelous journey is all-inclusive as well!

  1. Sounds like a good trip but when anything is described as luxury, I wonder how expensive it is. We would like to see Macchu Pichu but not if it is beyond our budget.
