Spontaneous Travel!

So you are thinking about your next trip and ready  to start the planning..  If you have traveled much in the past you know a bit about slow travel and the perils of over-booking. Do you want a leisurely trip that allows  last minute decisions?. If so, welcome to the world of spontaneous travel.  Is there a way to do this without  uncertainty?   Here are a couple of ideas to consider.:

If you are retired or have the type of work that allows  large amounts of time off, consider RV travel.  This is NOT for everyone but for those intrigued by the idea, take a look. It can often be more economical although it does require a sum of money  upfront -yes you have to buy an RV!  You cannot find another method  that allows you as much unscripted travel!  Make last minute changes if you want!  RVing can be enormously freeing.  It does require a bit of discipline…just a bit though!  For many people, the downside is the amount of driving that is required.  If you dislike driving to the grocery store, for instance, this is not for you!  You may want to consider train travel!

Amtrak is a fantastic way to travel as I can personally attest!  Basically, there are two methods to look into.  Amtrak Vacations will provide a great trip with rooms and meals provided.  You’ll see wonderful sites and have more personal service. You will not, however, have the spontaneity or the ability to make impromptu changes.  The best way for unscripted travel with Amtrak is to purchase an Amtrak Rail Pass.  They are inexpensive and allow you the freedom to do things your way!

These two methods provide what I believe to be some of the best ways to get the spontaneity you are looking for!  There are other methods as well-look around and you will find them!

  1. Such beautiful pictures. I used to love to travel spontaneously, at the drop of the hat so to speak. These days, it is harder to just get and go.
