Located near Moab, Utah, this high desert park’s altitude is 4,000+ft..  Bordered by the Colorado River, there is plenty to see!  The park’s claim to fame are its natural sandstone arches, the largest collection in the world.  With over 2,000 of these arches, you will stay active!

The park has a multitude of  sites to explore and a  number of ways to do so.  Looking for a laid back  trip?  Explore its well-known road, the Scenic Drive at a leisurely pace, and stop  when you want a closer view.  Although it is possible to drive  in 1.5 hours, slow it down and see more!  3 hours will allow you the time you need.  No need to rush!

Devil’s Garden may be the most popular site in the park.  You will see its signature spires and arches as well as “fins”- concentrations of narrow rock walls.  Landscape Arch is the star of Devil’s Garden-don’t miss it!  Take a hike and enjoy the scenery.   Hiking is available at multiple skill levels.  Landscape Arch Trail is an easy hike you will enjoy.  Double Arch Trail, at .6 miles is also less strenuous.  An expert hiker will enjoy  Devil’s Garden Trail (8 miles), a strenuous but engaging trek that will  put a smile on your face!.

You may also enjoy a tour and there are many available. Try a dark sky tour and enjoy the park in the evening.  Night hiking which also includes stargazing is very popular. There are many permutations of these dark sky excursions and you may find it hard to make a choice!  Go ahead and take a couple!

Arches National Park is unique and at times other-worldly.  Don’t forget your camera!

  1. Never been there. We need to go to more of the parks out west. So far we have stuck to the ones on the east coast.
