HaleakalaMountainTrail

Located on the southeast coast of Maui, this park is centered around a dormant volcano.  The crater is over 10,000 feet above sea level and has what some folks  describe as the most awe-inspiring sunrise in existence.  Go take a look!  Drive to the Visitor Center early in the morning to catch a glimpse of the sun peering over the horizon.  The park service does require a reservation for both personal and rental cars.  Your reservation will serve as a parking permit.  Would you prefer to sleep a bit later in the morning?  If so, view the sunset or spend the evening enjoying the star-filled sky.

Do you enjoy hiking?  Yes?  Hiking Sliding Sands Trail will keep you busy for quite a number of hours!  The 11 mile trek begins with a 10,000 plus elevation and it presents quite the work-out.  The trail is exposed so make sure you take plenty of water.  It is quite windy and can be cold so taking layers is a good idea!

There is so much more to this unique park so come prepared to spend some time. This biodiverse 34,000 acres will keep  you busy!
