Cruises are popular and their popularity continues to grow. Instagram, Pinterest and other platforms have a never-ending array of tempting cruise photos. There are palm tree lined beaches and exotic locales -often with cruise ships in the background. Close to 75% of international travelers will consider taking their first cruise. The percentage is even higher among those who have cruised before. Why? The top two reasons are the accessibility of the ports and the convenience of only unpacking once. Some destinations are simply best traveled by cruise
Consequently, even more tourists and wanderers consider cruising. The biggest area of concern is often cost. In early 2026, the average cost of a seven day cruise runs between $1800.00 and $2000.00 per person. The average can be misleading as there are obviously cruises both less and more expensive! Let’s take a look at some of the factors that influence cost.
The Cruiseline – Cruiselines are basically grouped into three categories – mainstream, such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival; premium such as Celebrity and luxury which includes Viking and Seabourn.
Time of Year – January through March ( Cruise Season) is the best time to book a cruise. Most the cruise lines run sales during this period
Destination – The Caribbean and the Bahamas are the most budget-friendly. You can sometimes get these cruises for as little as $110.00 per person. Europe, Alaska and Australia will cost more.
Shore Excursions and Services – Unless the cruise line is inclusive, ie Viking, you will pay for drink packages and internet service. The same is true for shore excursions-which you will want to participate in (though you don’t need one each day)
Cabin Type-The price you see listed on cruise advertisement is the price with an inside cabin. There are numerous cabins that are more expensive-some especially so. There are usually a number of upgraded cabins – typically a cabin with a window, a balcony or a suite.
Exercise due diligence– look at a number of different lines and compare prices. Ask questions – the ships are used to passenger questions!. You might also consider working with a travel advisor as they frequently have relationships with the carriers and at times can help you with a better price or added perks! Cruising is a wonderful experience- give it a try!
Thanks you!
Good afternoon! Learned a lot of interesting things!
