Mediterranean Cruise?

I have written numerous posts on different aspects of cruising such as   first time cruising, different cruise categories, destinations, cruise lines and more.  While looking through my posts, I noticed I had nothing on Mediterranean cruising.  Today I will change that!

Mediterranean cruises are quite popular;  this area of the world has centuries of history and culture and beautiful coastlines!  You will view some of Europe’s premier destinations and only have to unpack once!  These voyages come in various lengths, two weeks and up and  there are numerous itineraries.  Yep, there is one for you!

Mediterranean cruises are found in two different categories- western and eastern.  While both are wonderful, there are differences.  They visit different countries and each has its own unique vibes.  So which is right for you?

Popular ports of call for western tours are Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Rome, and Malta. These journeys are fast paced with an urban feel.  There are museums to see and these tours are great if you are an art lover. Take an excursion to Pompeii or visit one of Monte Carlo’s casinos!

Eastern tours are slower paced and frequently stay longer in ports.  Athens, Montenegro and Istanbul will be on the eastern itinerary.  Do you enjoy viewing ruins or have an interest in mythology?  If so, an eastern tour may be right for you!  Interestingly enough, Italy is often included in both eastern and the western tours.

Numerous cruise lines sail the Mediterranean including Viking, Ama Waterway, Cunard, Celebrity and Holland.  If your cruise includes children be sure to take a look at Royal Caribbean or Disney.  Summer is the most popular time for the Mediterranean but it is also the most expensive and crowded.  Spring and fall have lower prices and the weather is pleasant.

Cruises prices will be lower if you book by the end of March.  So book now for autumn tours!
