I have written about New Mexico several times, reporting on both Santa Fe and Taos.  My husband and I love these cities and consider New Mexico one of our favorite states!  There is, however, more to this state than a few cities (although they are absolutely fabulous!  The next time you visit NM, take a few days to travel the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway.  This 85 mile  road starts in Taos and goes through a number of small towns and villages.  You can actually drive it in one day but take two or three and enjoy all it has to offer!  Let’s take a look at what you will see on the road!

Driving this byway will take you through ever-changing landscapes, scenic mountains and numerous small towns and villages.  Questa is a quintessential small NM village where you can hike, camp and enjoy the lakes.  It also has trails that you must explore.

Red River was originally a mining town but is now known for fishing.    You will be mesmerized by the lofty mountain peaks and enjoy the fresh mountain air while rafting the Rio Grand River!  Don’t forget to take a horseback ride through Carson National Forest!

Eagles Nest is probably the smallest of the three.  This tiny village is a perfect antidote to the summer heat.  It is also a resort community with fishing, hiking and backpacking.  Make sure you visit Eagles Nest Lake State Park!

You have absolutely no choice about it- you will LOVE New Mexico!  Take a trip long enough to enjoy both the towns and the wilderness!
