Prince Edward County, Canada

I have been to many places in Canada – and enjoyed most of them.  I must confess I have never been to Prince Edward County (PEC),however.  Let’s take a look and see what it offers!

Located on the NE shore of Lake Ontario, it is known for its sand banks, food, wine, and friendly people.  Folks from Montreal (2.5 hours away) and Toronto (1.5 hours) have a history of  traveling here for long weekends and relaxing vacations.  The secret is out now and they have been joined by travelers from other areas.

Here are a few places often mentioned as places to see.  Picton is a small, picturesque town that serves as a hub for both locals and tourists. There are restaurants and shops of all types as well as parks and other outdoor spaces.  If you are interested in wine, this is the place to be.  Interested in a tour – Sandbanks Tours offers over 5,000 winery tours in addition to guided tours of distilleries and breweries.

Consider a visit to Sandbanks Provincial Park and enjoy their fabulous beaches. Outlet Beach is conveniently located near the park entrance.  If you travel further into the park you will discover Dunes Beach, with its towering sand formations–some up to 80 feet high!  The park is busiest in the summer so try a fall or spring visit for a quieter experience.

Have you been to PEC? If so, let me know what you would recommend!
