There are so many cities in our country that deserve a visit. Unfortunately, the US is so vast that it is difficult to tour them all. I am going to mention three you might want to consider. If you have already explored them, perhaps they are worth a second look!
CHARLESTON, SC –I’ve written a lot about this quintessential southern city, that readers of Conde Nast voted “the best small city in the world”. It is one of my personal favorites and has never disappointed. The US Civil War started in Charleston Harbor! Go and walk the cobblestone streets, admire the architecture, enjoy the culture and allow the town to bring history alive for you. Great food as well! There are a tremendous amount of fantastic hotels and BnBs at every price range. Yes, like most of the south, it is hot and humid in the summer. Plan accordingly!
FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA – I am generally not a big fan of desert climates and tend to avoid them. Despite being in Arizona, however, Flagstaff is a totally different animal. With an altitude of 7,000 feet, the city has beautiful summer and autumn weather. The typical summer day is around 80 degrees. Flagstaff IS a crowded summer destination though, so you may want to consider September or October. The days will be cooler and the prices lower.
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Due to its fabulous year-around climate, San Diego is a wonderful vacation at any time! For the most affordable trip, visit in the spring or fall (less crowded then also !) and plan and book in advance. There is an enormous amount to do here and much of it is free or low cost. Take the 59 mile Scenic drive for views of the skyline, coast and mountains. Balboa Park is wonderful and totally free as are the San Diego History Center and the Timken Museum of Art. Check out Point Loma and old town San Diego. See the Embarcadero and admire all the ships. Go snorkeling or kayaking. The San Diego Zoo, while not free, is a must see. We absolutely adored the zoo when we visited! This is a fabulous city and you will enjoy every moment you are there!
Happy Traveling!
Greetings! It is the little changes that produce the biggest changes! Thanks!
Good Advice!
Is Flagstaff a good winter destination? And how did it get that name. Perhaps from the first peoples, or more likely the US army.
It is if you like a cooler Arizona location!
Travelers can choose their own, which is a major plus.
