Mama Don’t Take My Kodachrome Away….

Paul Simon was right and I think most of us instinctively know it.  Words do not generally have the same impact as photographs.  If a topic does not grab your attention, you will not usually read about it.  If you start reading an article or a book and don’t enjoy it you stop reading.  Not so with  pictures.  They are immediate and in-your-face.  Once seen they cannot be unseen. They evoke a response that is often both subconscious and visceral.

I never really thought about this until I started working in the travel industry.  Clients (and potential clients) want pictures.  They want a photo of the rain forest, the mountain, the castle.  Even the most detailed description will not replace a single snapshot.  The good news is that if you can exhibit the right picture, they will take the time to read a description- just don’t make it too lengthy!  While the popularity of social media and phones are partially to blame, instant gratification has always been well, gratifying!

I am now fighting to keep this short and thinking about what  image to attach.  I am not a good photographer but have discovered that with the exception of those who ARE good  photographers, people generally like pictures that move them in some way.  Honestly even bad pictures can do that.  So…..I’ve got a cheap cell phone camera/I’d love to take you for a ride…..
