Grand Junction, Colorado boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually. While I have no reason to dispute their claim, I will tell you that we experienced one of the other 65. It was more a drizzle than a full-fledged rain storm, but those of us from the east coast have different standards!
We went walking despite the drizzle, visiting different shops and striking up conversations with the locals, who were quite friendly. Now that we have returned to our hotel room, the rain has stopped although the local forecasts call for more later. This will most likely occur when we leave for dinner….*S* Since today is Sunday, the museum we wanted to see, along with a surprising number of businesses, are closed. For some reason, I didn’t expect that!
The city is located at the confluence of two rivers: The Colorado River (formerly referred to as the “Grand River; and The Gunnison River. The juncture of the two provide scenic views as well as offering parks with picnicking, fishing and hiking. Due to the wet weather, we decided against the hike.
Tomorrow morning we leave Grand Juncture on the California Zephyr, for a trek through the Rocky Mountains to Denver. This is advertised as one of the most beautiful journeys in the country. Needless to say, our cameras will be ready to capture as much as possible!
Solid article!
thanks!
