After four wonderful days in San Diego, followed by a stressful few hours in San Francisco, we arrived this afternoon in Truckee, California, a lovely mountain town located near Lake Tahoe.
Our time in San Diego, which I mentioned in a recent post, was delightful! It is now on my list of favorite US cities, joining Denver, Santa Fe, Charleston, and Seattle. My husband has a number of relatives in the area and spending time with them was definitely a high point! We enjoyed a delicious meal with them and they also served as superb tour guides! We especially enjoyed our trip to the Cabrillo National Monument, located at the tip of Point Loma. The Point Loma Lighthouse was also interesting and there was good hiking available. What I enjoyed the most were the incredible views of the bay. (picture is the view from Point Loma).
On Sunday, we flew from San Diego to San Francisco to spend one evening in order to board the California Zephyr on Monday morning. Much to our surprise, an earthquake struck the city in the early morning hours on Monday. In consequence, we barely made it to the train station in time. The ride was relaxing however, and we arrived at our hotel in Truckee this afternoon. Tomorrow we will venture out to explore Lake Tahoe!
