Autumn in Wrightsville Beach, NC

Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier at sunrise in Wrightsville Beach east of Wilmington,North Carolina,United State.

Right now, the southeast coast of the US is under a hurricane advisory and some beaches have closed.  It is a bit early in the year for this, but experience tells me it will pass and the beaches will once again be warm and inviting!

We are coming up on Autumn and there is one thing I know for sure- when September or October get here-it is time to head for the southeast corner of North Carolina!  I grew up going to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach – both sides of my family hail from there and it is a place that stays in my heart.  Wilmington is as fanciful  as always – the river downtown and  the large live oaks draped in Spanish moss. .Today however, I want to focus on Wrightsville Beach-the beach of my childhood that has never let me down!  In my opinion, you will be best served by heading in this direction in September or October!

This walkable beach has everything you could want.  Even in late October, the water remains warm, but the beach itself is much less crowded.  Relax on the beach or take a dip. Head to Johnny Mercer’s Fishing Pier, the first concrete pier built in North Carolina. Take a stroll down the pier or throw in a line for yourself.  The fishing is great!  Take a scenic harbor cruise or sail the Intracoastal Waterway.  Regardless of what you do, you will enjoy the casual vibe and the friendly people.  The Beach is welcoming to both families and couples.  You will have a wondrous time!

Curious about that Carolina Beach Music?

  1. Wrightsville Beach each summer is what a lot of us did. No longer living in NC but maybe we need a trip back. Thanks.
