Feeling Spooked?

Moonrise

Have you ever been to a place that made you feel slightly spooked? Not full-blown frightened but just a bit uneasy?  We all know of places, perhaps even in our own town, that have a reputation of being haunted.  Some folks enjoy visiting places known for being eerie; if you are of that group you might interested in one of the following:

The Pine Barrens – If you were a fan of The Sopranos, as I was, you probably remember the episode featuring them.  To me, it was one of the scariest episodes I remember, which is saying quite a bit.  The Pine Barrens, located in southern New Jersey, is haunted by the Jersey Devil, a malevolent creature that flies around killing livestock, and scaring the bejesus out of those unlucky enough to live nearby.

The Stanley Hotel – In The Shining, Stephen King wrote about the supernatural Overlook Hotel.  Although fictional, the hotel was based on an actual hotel located in Estes Park, Colorado. The Stanley Hotel does it best to live up the spooky reputation even offering ghost tours and psychic consultations!  If you should find yourself visiting the Rocky Mountain National Park, stop by for a reading!

The Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia,  is another eerie place in a town already awash in the unearthly.  If you have not visited Savannah, you should as it serves up southern charm tinged by the supernatural.  This cemetery is known for a number of unusual happenings, including statues that  suddenly smile, crying babies and barking dogs and a sense that things are not quite as they seem.

  1. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil nailed Savannah as supernatural to me. Even the book cover gave that idea. Love the city.
