San Francisco!

San Francisco skyline and Bay Bridge at sunset, California

It has been a few years since my last visit to San Francisco.  I love this city-its relatively small size belies all it has to offer!  I think it has something to offer nearly anybody- here are a few of my personal favorites:

The Presidio – While not a national park in any traditional way, it is nonetheless managed by the National Park Service.  Hikers (and bikers!) can wander trails lined by Eucalyptus trees past bunkers and beaches.  The Tennessee Hollow Trail will even route you through wetlands swarming with birds of all types.  Tunnel Tops, recently completed, is a 14 acre green space with food trucks as well as a play area for the kids!

Oracle Park – While I am far from a die-hard baseball fan, the home of the San Francisco Giants since 2000 is well worth a look!  They offer year round tours where you can actually go onto the field as well as view it from the pressbox!  The Giants’ World Series trophies are on display and the tour guides will share anecdotes that will help bring the game to life.  If you tour with a ticket on gameday , you can watch the teams warm up or check out the Oracle Park food-which is as distinctive as the city itself!

Golden Gate Park –  Without a doubt,  this is my favorite place in the city!  I believe this is probably the best park in the country!  You are likely to find anything as you stroll through this green space – yoga classes, exhibits of all sorts, dancing, music, drum circles… and the beat goes on!  Rent a boat or ride the carousel!  There are gardens galore with over 7,000 varieties of plants.  Make sure to visit the Japanese Tea Garden.  After viewing the koi-filled ponds and bonsai, make sure to enjoy a cup of tea and refreshments!

Other places to see include Muir Woods National Monument, the cable cars, and of course the Golden Gate Bridge.  You just may end up as I did…and leave your heart there!
