Doesn’t everyone love it when the leaves start turning in the Fall? Combine your love of Fall Foliage with a visit to one of our great National Parks!
Shenandoah National Park – While this is not one of our best known National Parks, it IS stunning during Leaf Season! Peak season here is generally from mid October to early November. Only about an hour from Washington DC, this park has over 200,000 acres of waterfalls and protected land. Its numerous hiking trails and campsites, surrounded by multi-colored leaves, will not fail to please! Hit Skyline Drive, 105 miles of winding road chock-full of overpasses with fantastic views of the red, plum and deep purple vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nearby Charlottesville and Harrisonburg are wonderful places for an overnight stay!
Another location with wonderful color is Acadia National Park located on the coast of Maine. This park starts cooling down in late August and by early October tourists are arriving to view the colorful show! Bring Fido-Acadia is a dog friendly park!
Want to head west a bit? Grand Teton National, Wyoming’s glacial park is spectacular from late September until mid-October. Hike the Snake River – and take your camera -this is one of the best National Parks for fall photography!
Great Smoky Mountain National Park is good also but can be crowded. Very beautiful.
