Cool off in Europe this summer? You bet!

Lately the news has been full of reports on European heat waves, but cool places do exist!  Head to these two cities to cool off!

Nuuk, Greenland – For some reason, I have never really thought of Greenland as a European country- but it is!  Nuuk is the northernmost capital city in Europe, and with summer temperatures in the mid to upper 40’s it is easy to see why!  This location offers something other than the chill, however.  Silence, baby!  Book an Air Bnb and simply exhale.  Should you desire to be active, head to the mountains or check out the fjords.

Akureyri, Iceland – This small town of 20,000, located at the base of the Eyjafjorour Fjord, provides the relaxation you expect from a town of its size.  Averaging summer temperatures in the low 50s, it is located in an underrated part of Iceland that nonetheless offers a multitude of activities.  You can take a daytrip to the Godafoss Waterfall, take a whale-watching tour or visit the botanical gardens.   If you stick around in late August, you may see the Northern Lights!

These two above cities  are emerging locations in Europe and just starting to trend. The Faroe Islands is yet another place you might enjoy.  For a more traditional “coolcation”  you may want to look towards Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and the Dolomites.

  1. the town in greenland sounds interesting. Being somewhere quiet without a lot of touristy things would be a nice change. That will probably change but seems good maybe for now.
