First Time Cruising?

Cruise liner near Salerno Amalfitan coast in Italy

While not 100% true, most people love cruises!  If you are considering taking that first cruise, here are a few thoughts you may find helpful:

-Think about using a Travel Advisor.  We book a lot of cruises and are familiar with the companies. This can be enormously helpful when trying to decide between such a large assortment of companies, destinations, and locations.  Also, we can increase your chances of receiving special promotions and deals (such as onboard credit).  The majority of travel advisors do not charge a fee for booking cruises.  So you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

-Book early – cruises are generally booked further in advance than other forms of travel.  Usually the best time to book is during “Wave Season” (January – March).  You can often get the best deals of the year then.

-Caribbean cruises are a good destination for a first time cruise.  You’ll get a chance to see numerous islands, they are usually affordable and the water is calm.  River cruises also feature calmer water and offer easy access to towns/cities.  For a first cruise aim for 7-8 nights.

-Great cruises are available for families, couples, and even singles.  Royal Caribbean is a great option for families with children.  The ships are large with a lot of shipboard activities-water parks, clubs for kids and teens, shows and programs of all types.  Disney, of course, is great as well!  If you are interested in a child-free cruise, you might want to check Viking or Virgin-both of which are tailored for adults.

-Cruise Critic is a great online source of information on cruising.  Check it out!

  1. Do you feel seasick on cruise ships? I worry not being able to sleep because of that.
