I love New Mexico- I find it stunning in a way very different from my North Carolina home.(which is also gorgeous!) Generally, when I think of NM-one of two pictures pops into my mind. First, there is Santa Fe, which is one of my favorite cities in the country. Secondly, there is Albuquerque, home of the largest balloon festival in the world. The festival is held every October. This year’s dates are October 4th through the 12th. It is huge and diverse in its offerings and nearly everyone will find something they love about it!
Albuquerque weather in October is perfect for being outdoors. While there are huge balloon ascensions every day, the largest ones are found on Saturday and Sunday. View them from North Domingo Baca Park– be there in the morning with a folding chair and food! Interested in a balloon ride yourself? The prices vary widely depending on the type of ride (sunrise, sunset, private etc). These tend to sell out so book it ahead of time.
There are different types of lodging available including camping, glamping and traditional hotels. The Westside neighborhood is a great place to stay as it is also close to a zoo, an aquarium and a botanic garden. Oh….the admission price is just $15.00 per person, per session and kids under 12 are free. This has all the makings of a fabulous family vacation!
