Expedition Cruising

galapagosIslands

Cruising is a growth industry as people try them and get hooked.  The entire industry is growing fast–but the fastest growing section of all is Expeditionary Cruising.  Made specifically for the bold and intrepid, these cruises combine adventure and exploration focused typically on nature and wildlife.  Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands are two popular destinations but are far from all.

Two popular expedition cruise lines are Lindblad and Hurtigruten.  Lindblad is a family run company that partners with National Geographic.  Their adventures take place all over the globe and have a loyal and enthusiastic following.  Hurtigruten focuses on voyages that connect passengers with local communities.  On a Hurtigruten voyage you don’t just see the fjords, you also stop in the fishing villages and learn about the history and culture.

With smaller ships that hold fewer passengers, these voyages provide a total experience for the growing number of travelers in search of adventure.

  1. Are expedition cruises suitable for families with young children? Will children be able to participate in the activities?
