Taos, New Mexico

I love New Mexico!  As I wrote in an earlier post on Santa Fe, it is a beautiful, historical and cultural destination that nearly anybody would enjoy.  My husband and I certainly did!  After you visit Santa Fe, take the 70 mile drive to Taos.  Located in the high desert of  northern New Mexico and frequently thought of as a winter ski destination, it is so much more!  It is beautifully accessible in all four seasons of the year;  we visited in early Autumn and loved it.

Taos is an artists’ community packed with galleries and museums- be sure to take a look!  Go hiking or rafting or take a trolley or train tour.  Our favorite excursion was the Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World History Site.  The Pueblo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the US.  The multi-story red adobe buildings are a snapshot of Puebloan culture- the folks in this 1000 year old community still speak their traditional language.  Let yourself be swept out of the 21st century and into the past.  Is is extremely easy to do here!  Make sure to visit the vendors and artists – guided tours are available!
