So which is it? The south end of the island is Dutch–hence Sint Maarten and the French Saint Martin is on the north end. Overall, there are 37 beaches for snorkeling and swimming. Some of the beaches require a hike (or a boat) to get to. Unlike its neighbor , St Barts, this island has both budget and high-end options. Often called the culinary capital of the Caribbean, dozens of different cultures combine to make its superb cuisine! Both sides of the island are great destinations – the French side is calm and laid back and has a Caribbean vibe. When you are looking for more amenities or want nightlife head to the Dutch! Both sides are great and you should make a point to spend time on both!
