Seattle!

ChihulyGlassSeattle

We arrived in Seattle on a train-the final destination on our cross-country train trip.  It was late July and I think it was around 78 degrees.  Glorious!   When we left NC two weeks early it had been in the mid to high 90’s.  We splurged and spent our week there in luxury accommodations downtown.  It was wonderful but honestly most of our time in Seattle was spent elsewhere.

Gosh, I love this city!  So fresh and green, walkable and with an unbeatable friendly vibe!  We did all the touristy things; the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, took the monorail to the Seattle Center.  The two places that stand out are our visit at the Chihuly Glass Museum and the day trip  to Olympic National Park.  I strongly suggest visiting them both!

Seattle is the home of Dale Chihuly, who is world-renowned for his fabulous glasswork-colorful, iconic and supremely memorable.  Although you can often catch displays of his work in other cities, nothing matches his museum.  We spent hours there and took dozens of pictures. The picture here is one of them.

Olympic National Park sprawls across the Olympic Peninsula and cuts across several different ecosystems-mountains and old-growth forest.  Lots of trails and lots of hikers-and actually too cool-glad I brought a jacket!   Mt Olympus was snow-topped and the park was idyllic.  You have to go!
